The Way of Fun

I was clicking my way through a site called "Singlenesia." Amused and bemused by the "The Barry Bittwister Cabal" and all that it apparently stands for (more later), I conceptually limped my way to a tract called The Way of Fun.

I read it. I laughed. I cried. "Wait a minute. Isn't this something I wrote? Isn't this the very core belief of that which I have publicly proclaimed to be the Playful Path?

And, behold and lo, it wasn't and it was! Written, in apparent fact, not by me at all, but by a seer named "Baba Bar Ran" and prepared by the "Universal Church O' Fun" (whose motto is: "One Faith Fits All"). I found this downloadable, printoutable, foldupable piece of playful pith completely corroborating and confirming, and maybe more.

There are only three steps. Allow me to present Step Three:
"When we achieve oneness with Fun, we no longer need to have Fun or make Fun.

"Instead of doing things for Fun, everything we do is Fun naturally, without effort.

"Do not become discouraged in aspiring to be one with Fun. At first, the experience will be fleeting. Perhaps coming unexpectedly while making Fun.

"With faithful practice, we are able to hold on to the feeling longer and longer. We become Fun for hours - then for a whole day. In time, our entire lives can become Fun.

"And Fun will become us."

I queried the author of The Way of Fun, it's origins and his. Here is his response:

ME: Are there other activities of the Church of Fun?

HE: Universal Fundays are the fifth Sunday of any month and all are encouraged to have and make more Fun than usual on that day. I used to have Funday gatherings here at my amusement park, but decided it would be more Fun if everyone had Fun in their own way -- and not in my way.

ME Are there any pieces from my website that you are looking for in particular?

HE Not yet. I'm still exploring.

ME What are you doing with your life . . .

HE I'm pursuing a lot of Fun projects and I finance them by substitute teaching in public high schools. This career allows me quite a bit of free time. I also get the funnest parts of teaching -- no meetings, grades, homework, lesson plans, parents calling, and so on. I simply help people learn and am finished forever at the end of each day.

ME . . . and how did you come to your vision of fun . . .

HE I've always put my faith in Fun. In my youth I made Fun of religion. As I matured, I realized that I had it backwards. The more I thought about Fun, the more I realized it's the basis of all that's good in life.

Just between you and me, and I suspect you know this too, Fun is another word for love. If I published all the good dogma with "love" substituted for "Fun" almost everyone would dismiss it as corny, hippie tripe. Everyone might believe in love, but we're far more comfortable praising Fun.
