In a recent chat with Holly, beloved goddaughter and co-proprietress of the famously delicious Snuzzles, we became mutually rapt in a discussion of the many marvels of ping pong. I quickly found myself wanting to share with her the joyous potential of some ping pong variations I knew. I was hoping to describe a certain such when I realized that the name by which I knew it was clearly no longer considered appropriate and/or correct. Somewhat later, I was delighted to learn that there are now extant a variety of descriptions of the aforementioned that use far more acceptable names, such as “Runaround Ping Pong.”
Here‘s yet another depiction of the same game. This time, it’s simply called “Run Around the Table.” Two more pongish variations are included.
Then again, there’s Jungle Pong – (not exactly) the same game (see comment), different name, and more fully documented.
And, lastly, a video explication, here called “Round Ping Pong.”
Of course, you don’t have to keep score, the goal being to see how long you can keep the ball going. You can count the plocks (the noise the ball makes when hitting the paddle) if you need something score-like. It can get quite spiritual, actually, whether your running around or not, as I describe here.

Very cool! Can’t wait to try it.
Reminds me of the cruel thing I did as a teenager, switching between tennis and ping pong.
Little correction… Runaround Ping pong and Jungle Pong are 2 totally different games….
Jungle Pong is where you let the ball drop to the ground and bounce once… With Runaround, you can’t let it hit the ground…. also… Jungle Pong has no net…..
We play “ching chong”… It’s a variation of Jungle Pong… If you miss the table or let the ball bounce more than once on the ground, you get 1 point…. 5 points and your out….. The main difference is a small cereal bowl (ceramic or metal) placed in the middle of the table…. if you land in the bowl, all your points are gone… But BEWARE! if your ball stops on the table and doesn’t make it to the ground, you get a point….
So many variables to this game… It’s absolutely epic.
