games for the car in you

I have a game for you. It’s more of a laughter exercise, but I think of it as a game. It’s like red-light/green-light that I used to play as a child. One person calls out “green light” and we drive our imaginary cars all over. Then the caller calls “red light” and we stop and laugh. Really there is no set beginning or end, its just finished when we decide its finished.

So I write:

So, I’m guessing that people are not just imagining their imaginary cars, but actually pretending to drive them – making car noises, traffic patterns, walking around carishly while trying not to bump into each other. Yes?

And Lily replies:

Yes, exactly. It can get a little chaotic, but chaos can be perfect so long as nobody gets hurt. I made it up to remind me to laugh at red lights when I’m actually driving. It’s a simple way to add a couple extra minutes of laughter into my day, and keeps me calmer on the road. :) I’ll let you know if I think of any other games. I work with children, and as you know, they are always coming up with new games.

To which I respond:

Lovely. I am almost remembering two other car-ish games we played during the time of the New Games Foundation:

One game (could it have been called “Car Wash“?) people lined up facing each other, on their knees. and one at a time, a player or two would first announce what kind of car they were, and then crawl through while everyone else “washed” them. A great opportunity to get massaged by the masses.

Then there was another game, I think this was “Car Car,” where players would get in pairs. the first player was the car, the second the driver. The car would either stand facing the driver or would stand facing away, with her eyes closed. And then everyone would basically drive around, partners taking turns driving or being driven. Great fun, actually.
