Not Pointless, Playful

by Bernie DeKoven on January 10, 2013

For several many years I’ve been calling the kind of games I’ve been inventing and teaching “pointless.” I liked the humor and the irony of the term. “Pointless,” because no one keeps score, or if they do, no one cares about it. The irony is that these games all make a point, a very profound point. The point: there is another way to play – a way that has nothing to do with winning or losing, and everything to do with playing and having fun.

I like to call this kind of game “playful”

Hence, no longer pointless, but Playful Games.
