Naked Hand Puppets, Rip Slyme, and Music Videos

Rip Slyme, a Japanese Rap group, has produced a video that combines finger puppets and what you might call "naked hand puppets" with live action video. The result is pretty much pure fun.

Seeing live action faces on finger puppets is definitely strange, bordering on silly. The naked hand puppets (NHPs) add a sense of both familiarity and playfulness, and reach new heights of NHP magnificence towards the end of the video when they create a puppet using five hands.

And I thought my 2-person cross-frogging was the ultimate achievement in NHPuppetry.

Anonymous said...: I'm no connoisseur, but this music is abosultely horrible. I found much of the puppetwork almost as good as the music.
Nevertheless, there are a few cool things they do with multiple hands that I found quite fun.
Recommendation: watch only the last 10 seconds of the video.
Bernie said...: Sorry about the music. I, too, am no connoisseur, especially of rock/rap or whatever that music is. But I was taken by the puppetry of it all, and, as you said, especially the last part of the video. Thanks for the astutehood.
